Program Description:
Gene therapy is a fascinating field that has the potential to improve the health of millions of patients. Promising advancements using gene therapy technology and techniques are offering hope for many with rare and serious diseases, including sickle cell disease, hemophilia, cancers, retinal disease, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, and others. Rather than treating these conditions with medications or surgical interventions, gene therapy may allow disorders to be treated by inserting a gene into a patient’s DNA to alter gene expression.

During this program, experts will review the science behind gene therapy and explore payer considerations for supporting patient access to these innovative treatments. Topics for discussion include the science behind gene therapies, the possible benefits and side effects of the products, and current research efforts for gene therapy. In addition, the event will explore managed care and provider strategies for covering and paying for gene therapy.
